Bunchgrasser’s World

My unique filter on life

Bunchgrasser Bio

Hello, and welcome to Bunchgrasser’s World – my unique filter on life.

Who am I? Well, thanks for asking. I’m 43, live in Portland Oregon and have been married for 19 years to the most amazing woman on the planet. I have 2 kids, age 13 & 16 who both challenge me and amaze me every day. I work for ScaleOut Software, where I spend most of my time sitting in front of a computer, selling (very cool) distributed caching software that helps companies scale their enterprise web or grid-based applications.

Outside of the office, I taxi my kids to and from soccer practice and manage to pursue an ecclectic mix of interests and hobbies in the slivers of free time that I currently have. I’m a runner, amateur photographer, home brewer of tasty beer, home vintner of fabulous wines, occasional metal detectorist, and budding backpacker.

If I had to condense my current philosophy on life into a single phrase, it would be this: Whatever you want to do, or be in life…Do it now! Don’t wait! Don’t apologize!

Lately, I’ve been focused obsessed with running and have completed two marathons (Portland Marathon) and numerous half marathons. I’m now very interested in running my first ultra marathon. I suspect that most of my posts will be running-related as I continue to work at getter faster and stronger. Although each time I build up my mileage I seem to injure myself. Wish me luck in that endeavor.

What’s that? You want more details about me? Well, you are a nosey blog-stalker, aren’t you. Okay, a little more about me. I’ve been a sales professional for 18 years, but I definitely lean more to the introverted, shy side. I’m sociable, but don’t seek out social situations. I enjoy eating lunch in a restaurant…by myself. I’m quite analytical and enjoy making copious lists of “to do” items for myself (that I never actually do). I’m a great speller and proofreader, but I’m scared to death of math. I read every night. I’ve lived in Japan for a year, and Mexico for a year. I’ve traveled to more than 10 countries. I love shopping, especially for clothing and shoes. In fact, my addiction to buying shoes might be called a “problem” by some. I’m scuba certified but haven’t been diving in more than a decade. I drive a 2009 Jetta TDI (40+ MPG, yeah!) Whew! Satisfied now?

This is the point where I thank you for reading my blog and invite you to check back frequently. If you like what you read, please consider sharing your comments and definitely add me to your blogroll. If you are a runner and have any tips or suggestions for marathon or ultra marathon training – please share them.
